Nokia released a new firmware V52.0.007 for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The firmware is available to download via OTA. You can also update this firmware by going into the Applications --> SW update. It is shown there as "Phone software".
The size of firmware is 4873 kB. Since firmwares are very important to your phone you should always update to new firmware available. This firmware will improve phone's performance and bring new features such as better touch screen experience, Enhanced rotation, etc. Though the official changelog is not available but there are number of small UI changes that you will notice after updating to this version.
There is another update available via SW update. It is "Music Player Update v15.2 (1034)". The update size is 687 kB. Always wanted to know the lyrics of that special song? This new feature displays the embedded lyrics of the song playing on your device. Download the update and then click on Options menu of Now Playing view to enable this feature when lyrics are available.

It's really great that after more than 1.5 years of its release, Nokia is still working on the improvement of its one of the most selling mobile phone model Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Recently Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has got another firmware update. Now the latest firmware available is v51.0.006. The firmware is available via OTA (Over The Air).
Note: It is always advisable to take the backup of your data before you update to latest firmware. You may face data loss problem during installation.

The other way is - Go to Settings --> Phone --> Phone mgmt. --> Device updates --> Options --> Check for updates. The size of firmware is 2737 KB. If your mobile internet connectivity is slow, then it might take some time to download the new firmware.

I am not sure if anyone else noticed the same but from the moment, I updated to firmware V50.0.05, I run into an strange problem with the browser. Earlier I used to access sites on my browser without any problem, but after this update, things are not working as expected. Sometimes, trying to open a recently visited page from the browers's histroy, it gives an error message "Invalid server name".
The message comes several times when you try to open the site. After 3-4 attempts, the site will open. Sometime it will open the site without this "Invalid server name" message. This error happens quite frequent. Following screenshots shows the steps to reproduce this bug.
From the screenshots, you can see, I tried to open a webpage from the Browser's history (Recently Visited Pages) and it gave me the "Invalid server name" error. Btw I am done with the hard reset of my cell after this firrmware update and also did Factory settings restore but nothing actually solved this bug. Along with this error message, I sometime also get another message "Reply Unknown" when click on any link in webpage. For example: Clicking on Inbox link in rediffmail.
All these problems started only after the firmware 50. If you guys are also facing the same problems or someone was able to get rid of it, then please share your comments with everyone.

In our earlier post, we mentioned that there is a new firmware update V50.0.005 is available for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic via FOTA and NSU. We also posted the complete changelog but the screenshots were missing. Here are few screenshots taken on my cell while updating the firmware.
As shown in the screenshots, the size of firmware V50.0.005 is 9811 KB via OTA. After this firmware update, you can see the updated information from "Device Updates".
You can see the newly added Ovi Sync application in the screenshot. Following screenshots shows the changes made in the music player.
Now album arts is being displayed along with song. When you scroll, it shows the first letter of the song on top as shown in the screenshot. There is kinetic scrolling available in Menu as well after this update. You can see that in the following screenshot.
I did not get time to make a video of all the changes so I posted these screenshots. Hope you guys too have updated to this firmware. You can do that either through NSU or via "Settings-->Phone--> Phone mgmt--> Device updates--> Options--> Check for updates" on your mobile.

It just keeps searching and if you try to stop, it hangs for a while. To avoid this bug, I am recommending what I did on my cell. The audio formats like .aac, wma, .m4a, etc. are creating this problem. If you want your music player refresh the library instantly, you need to keep only .mp3 files in your cell. You can remove files with other audio format than .mp3. After keeping only .mp3 files in cell, it will refresh instantly. If you guys have any other workaround for this bug, then share that here.

The latest firmware v40.0.005 of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic released by Nokia around 3 months back came with more contacts on home screen with scrolling functionality. There were other cool features which forced everyone to update to this version. But I think, this firmware update was released in hurry with no proper testing done. There are so many annoying bugs.
It's been a single day only i have updated my mobile to this firmware and i was able to notice few of these bugs. I will try to post them here.
All these bugs I noticed in just one day. I would not say noticed rather faced many times in a single day and now I want my previous firmware which was way too much better than this one. Such a stupid firmware. I would advice everyone to stay away from this until nokia release something which is not stupid.

It's been a single day only i have updated my mobile to this firmware and i was able to notice few of these bugs. I will try to post them here.
- Alarm Bug: Did you ever imagine that you set an alarm and when it rings, you are not able to stop it, you are not able to snooze it. No matter how many times you click on "Stop" and "Snooze" button, the Alarm is not going to stop. You have to press the red button to kill that shit.
- Radio and Music Player Bug: You are listening to any radio station or any of your song on music player. Suddenly you notice that next (>>), previous (<<) and play/pause buttons are no more working. You have no way to get out of it. If it got stuck in music player, the screen will freeze and you will not be able to exit from it. Same happens if you are in radio. The only solution is to restart your mobile in order to play music again on your mobile.
- Incoming Call Bug: You got a call from your friend. Your mobile is ringing. When you touch Answer on the screen to pick the call. Suddenly you notice that nothing is actually happening, no matter how many times you touch the Answer. So what you have to do in order to pick the call? Well,
you have to first unlock your mobile from side button or moving over Unlock button from right to left side in iPhone style and then pick the call.You have to slide over Answer button from one direction to other. Previously all controls like Answer, send message, reject was available as soon as someone calls you. Now you need to unlock the phone in order to send message or reject the call. It's mot a bug rather an update which I personally did not like at all. Nokia is trying to copy these sliding touch effects from iPhone. I would prefer Nokia to be original. - Home Screen Contacts Bug: So you are happy that you have more contacts on home screen with scrolling effects but you will be surprised that most of the time you scroll the contacts and they don't. instead it open the details any contact. The scrolling thing does not work properly at all.
- Poor Touch Experience: You will be thinking that with new firmware, you will get the improved touch experience but its not the case. Touch experience is really bad compare to the earlier firmware. Very slow response to your actions on touch screen will make you go crazy. It's my personal experience and you may not be fully agree with me. Might be because my cell is full of apps.
- Multiple icons in Gallery: This is one of the oldest and still existing bug in this mobile. You will see hundreds of icons of a single image. The Gallery go crazy. The same image icon is present multiple times in Gallery-->Images & Videos, Gallery -->Sound clips and Gallery--> Other media. Fine, so what happens when you delete that image from your mobile. As soon as you delete that image. The next image now is available multiple times. Feels like a virus but its not. This is the long existing bug and Nokia did not do anything on this issue. Waiting for new firmware for your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device? Here is the news; Nokia 5800 XpressMusic got a new firmware V31.0.008. Still many countries left to get it. India is one of these countries which are still counting to get this firmware either through OTA or NSU. Hopefully it will be available in couple of days.
If you are thinking there is something great like widgetized home screen and kinetic scrolling then better you forget this update. This update does not bring anything fancy for you. Rather it's an update for bug fixes.

Unfortunately after installtion, i was not able to find any noticable changes except homescreen email notification. I will post the list of changes made in this firmware once i get more official information from Nokia.

Though I was not able to update the firmware to V30.0.011 on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic but this update is available in some regions. After reading Sittiphol blog where he stated that it's available in Thiland, i tried updating my device but i was unable to find any updates.
There is no changelog available at this moment but i am sure that there will be some bug fixes and improvements over the exisiting version. It's always better to update to latest firmware. I am waiting for this firmware to be available in my region.

There is good news for the owners of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. A new firmware will makes it look like N97 or 5530 XpressMusic. The new firmware will include kinetic scrolling and widgets support. There is also an update to improve camera performance and reduced response time.
The moment Nokia introduced the N97 and then 5530 XpressMusic, everyone was expecting the same changes in the home screen of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic also. Now with new firmware, the home screen will be similar to N97 with support of widgets. The expected date of this firmware in all the regions is not yet confirmed but it is expected that it will arrive after the launch of Nokia 5530 XpessMusic.

There is a new firmware update V21.0.0.101 released by Nokia for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It's an update over previous version V21.0.25. This firmware is not available in all regions. The firmware update is available only for Nokia 5800 with product code "0575407" ( i.e. HongKong ).
There is no major improvements except better camera quality and less screen refresh time, noticed by people who installed this firmware. The size of this firmware is around 137 MB.
